EARTH-HOP
BRANDING
2023

DESIGN BRIEF
The Environmental Action Response Team Hip Hop project (EARTH HOP) is an interdisciplinary organization that aims to raise awareness about climate change by merging community engagement, education, and music. This initiative brings together San Diego State students to mentor middle schoolers, guiding them through a step-by-step program. Mentees are educated about the environmental crisis and then encouraged to select their climate-related topics, which they apply to the creative songwriting process. The music component encompasses learning about lyrics, rhythm, music production, and more.
PRIMARY LOGO

RESEARCH + EXPLORATION
In designing my project, I aimed to establish a clear connection between the environment and hip-hop. Through my research, I observed that other hip-hop logos tend to be bold and possess a stamp-like quality. With this in mind, I maintained bold typography but infused a playful element by stretching the letters to occupy the space. Above the text, I crafted an icon intended to convey multiple meanings, linking the two themes. Employing a half circle, it can symbolize either the earth or a CD, offering a dual interpretation alongside the pattern I incorporated. The pattern, inspired by typographic maps and sound waves, serves to enhance branding across various platforms. As for the color scheme, I opted for teal along with different shades of blue. Teal serves as the primary color, blending green for the earth and blue for hip-hop, while also ensuring suitability for the school environment. To accentuate this teal, I incorporated similar tones of blue, along with darker shades to complement the main colors.
