DESIGN BRIEF
For this assignment, we were supposed to choose an issue we personally care about, then research and familiarize ourselves with the facts, impact, and consequences of this issue. Afterward, we had to design a campaign to modify behavior or raise awareness about the social issue. This involved implementing our design as an app icon and then adapting the same icon to fit the layout for a poster, limited to a 3-color palette.
What I aimed to emphasize for this project was the pervasive disinformation and misinformation surrounding the topic of human trafficking. Contrary to popular belief, the average victim is not more likely to be kidnapped or physically forced into trafficking. Instead, victims are typically manipulated and coerced into exploitative labor or commercial sexual exploitation by a family member or an intimate partner whom they know and trust. The objective was to convey the seriousness of the issue while shedding a positive light on the victims.

RESEARCH + EXPLORATION
When embarking on this project, I recognized the necessity of creating an icon to symbolize human trafficking while also aiming to portray the victims in a positive light. To achieve this, I began by compiling a list of words and illustrating various ideas and objects that came to mind. Subsequently, I explored potential connections between the listed ideas to generate a more impactful image.
During my research on representation, I came across the phrase "clipping a bird's wings," which struck a chord with me. This metaphor encapsulates the notion of freedom, innocence, or opportunity being hindered or trapped, akin to the experience of trafficking victims. Thus, I decided to depict hands forming a bird silhouette breaking free from chains, symbolizing liberation from exploitation.
